CA’s Overdose Prevention bill needs your fax support this week!

Dear friends and supporters of Good Samaritan 911 overdose prevention policies:

We need your organization/agency/task force letters of support for AB 472, California’s “Good Samaritan 911” overdose death prevention bill faxed in this week. This bill will encourage people to call 911 for help in an overdose situation by providing limited criminal immunity for minor drug law violations. The Assembly Public Safety committee will be hearing the bill next week and your letters of support are very important to the committee members.

Please print the attached letter on your organizations letterhead and fax it today (if possible) to both of the numbers listed below. After you’ve sent your fax, please let me know so I can keep track of who is supporting the bill. While personal letters of support are appreciated, committee members are much more influenced by letters indicating organizational support for the policy, so please be sure to print it on your letterhead!

Please contact me with any questions you may have, including any requests to read the text of the bill. The Good Samaritan bill this year remains unchanged from the Good Samaritan bill run in the last session.

This same bill made it all the way to the Governor’s desk last year, thanks in large part to your efforts to ensure its passage. We sincerely appreciate your continuing support this year. Let’s get this bill to Jerry Brown’s desk this year!

Please fax your letter today to the Assembly Public Safety committee: 916-319-3745 and to Assemblymember Tom Ammiano: 916 -319- 2113
