In the Fall of 2010, recording artist Jade Elektra started working on an idea for a bitch track that would work as a public service announcement about online sex sites and HIV status, inspired by her husband Jorial’s (Jo.hn Ri.chard Al.lan) acclaimed series of “HIVogue” faux magazine covers first displayed at Urbanity Humanity, a group exhibition in 2008 Scotiabank Nuit Blanche, at Beaver Hall Gallery in Toronto.
Disturbed by the growing numbers of new HIV infections among youth, Elektra wanted to send out a message that would tell it like it is and not candy-coat the safe sex message. She called several DJ/Producers and Vjuan Allure, Fierce Tease and Chip Chop generously donated talent, time and energy to her cause, each responding with unique mixes of the track.
On World AIDS Day, December 1st, 2010, Jade premiered HIVogue on CKLN 88.1 FM (Toronto, Canada) on Verlia Stephens’ “Limin’ With Verlia In De Afrikan Diaspora” radio program, and gave a detailed interview about the track and her wishes to release the song as a charity single. Several different mixes of HIVogue will be released exclusively to iTunes in September 2011, with ALL sales from digital downloads donated directly to the grassroots HIV/AIDS service organization(s) of Jade’s choice, to be finalized and announced in the upcoming weeks.
