My name is Hugo Santacruz and I work with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, Division of HIV and STD Programs. I am contacting you because we are doing an upcoming research study on men who have sex with men here in Los Angeles County. Currently, we are beginning our formative research for our project and we need to speak to and interview some community service providers that have experience working with gay and bisexual men over 18 y/o here in Los Angeles. We are hoping that we can interview someone from your organization that has some experience working with this population. We want to conduct a “key informant interview” and ask some questions about your experience working with gay and bisexual men around HIV in order to help us come up with better ideas on how to do this future study. This key informant interview will take approximately 45 minutes to complete, it is completely voluntary, and all of the responses from the interview will be completely confidential (no names will be reported anywhere).
Here is some further information about our project: we are part of the National HIV Behavioral Surveillance (NHBS) system, which is a CDC funded nationwide ongoing study that is conducted by the County of Los Angeles, Department of Public Health. The purpose of this project is to monitor HIV trends in the United States and also help us improve local services for HIV prevention programs here in Los Angeles. We primarily work with 3 high risk populations, including men who have sex with men, injection drug users, and heterosexuals at higher risk. This year will be focusing on men who have sex with men who are at risk for HIV. In a few months, we are planning on interviewing over 500 gay and bisexual men over the age of 18, across all of Los Angeles County. We will be offering these men an anonymous 45 minute survey and a free HIV test with an incentive of up to $60 cash for participation for their time. We plan to begin our data collection around July and will continue to do surveys until the end of the year. The local name of our project will be known as The LA Men’s Survey.
Please let me know if someone from your organization is willing to help our project. We would greatly appreciate any help!
