A great social experiment is ongoing regarding increasing use and misuse of cannabis. Scientific findings are showing clear health enhancing effects and health risks to misuse of cannabis, especially among adolescents and young adults.   Evidence outlining these will be presented. Clinical perspectives will also be provided that can be used to guide interventions that are accurate and acceptable to patients.

This presentation will include an overview of electronic American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) assessments used as part of two pilot projects conducted within the specialty substance use disorder (SUD) system in Los Angeles County in preparation for the Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System (DMC-ODS) Waiver. These electronic ASAM assessments are based on a computer algorithm that consolidates the information gathered from a multidimensional ASAM assessment and produces SUD level of care recommendations based on the clinical information gathered; This presentation will also include findings of two pilot projects.

Whole Person Care – LA is a Medi-Cal waiver-funded program and five-year initiative that will provide comprehensive and coordinated services to the sickest, most vulnerable LA County Medi-Cal beneficiaries focusing on those who are homeless, justice-involved, or have serious mental illness or severe/persistent substance use disorder or medical issues or are perinatal high-risk.
